Did you ever play Mother 3?
It was a Japan-only release, but it’s available for emulators.
It’s like Earthbound, but the battle system has a twist: it’s rhythmic.

Awesome list…Contra will always hold memories for any gamer alive. it was def the game of getting close to a best friend, “to do list” of beating at a sleepover, etc…im surprised they havent made a remake with all these new graphics and consoles

I have been a fan of pokemon from the start, i named my red Iguana “Charizard” for crying out loud haha, i feel with Pokemon it can never get old..all the colors and jewelry versions get better and better as they evolve(no pun intented) just not a huge fan of all these legendaries and sub-legendaries that came outta nowhere..I remember playing red/blue/yellow and fearing seeing a Mewto in a rivals line up brought fear in your GB’s screen as you quickly bring out yours to have the strongest metwo battle (unless you cheat by bringing out your Cinnibar Island ledge surfing Missing No./overmaxedlevel pokemon that you rare candy rape to lvl 255. ~Pierre as your Character will generate lvl168 Rapidashes and lvl177 squirtles, which i gladly thank i used during a battle ill tell you later about~ But to me I feel as Nintendo is using pokemon as their Trump Card..as in if all else fails and decide they company is at their low point, they will release the MMORPG for the Wii or next level nintendo console and instead of the side games like PokePark and/or Stadiums/Colesseum/Rumbles..

i have never played Earthbound, was it a SNES exclusive? i had sega at the time..i might have to check it out

Games i want to be remade:

Conkers Bad Fur Day(original 64) the xbox version was terrible

Battletoads and Double Dragon (and/or) i know Battletoads is licsensed under Rare which is xbox owned but imagine the Graphics on that game with PS3 behind it and 3D Capabilities with the over large extremeties attacks.

Road Rash: im surprised EA hasnt come up with this, since they’ve had about 5 games to the series

I love your list! An earthbound remake would make me cry happy tears of sheer bliss! Also, they have something similar to a remake of the Pokemon TCG game. It’s called the Pokemon Trainer Challenge. It’s no where near as awesome as the Duels of the Planeswalkers games and really promotes buying phsical card packs to obtain codes to expand your deck though. You supposedly can do online player battles though, which is cool.

Even though it may not be old enough to warrant a remake, I would LOVE to tackle Jet Set Radio for the new handhelds. Can you imagine AR support capable of displaying the game’s beautiful tags on walls or buildings? Sharing custom tags via Near or StreetPass? Plus, I just want a new game in this series anyway!

Journey has jumped into my top ten as well. I’ve never been so overcome with emotion while playing a game. Very cool that your partner drew a heart around you before you walked into the light together.
I like what you say about the chirps. “This lack of direct communication makes for a compellingly sincere experience.” Well said.
BTW, has the Tester led to any new opportunities in the game industry? The Podcast Beyond guys say they still see Amped and Naucious at Sony events all the time. Wondering what you’re up to after the show…

I couldn’t of said it better myself, truly! I agree so much. This gen is so much different, that we don’t need to hit the reset button and just pump out more consoles, but to take the time to nurture and evolve out current state of gaming.

I’m really not looking forward to an “Xbox 720″ or PS4, the reasons mainly being those you already stated, the price would be quite high. And I fear it would be mostly just slick looks and flashy lights to “out do” each other, not to mention backward capability if they actually DO go to download only. Steam works fine for the PC because the system requires installation of games anyway. A steam type deal on a console would be nice as an extra, but not as a replacement for the current discs. I’m sure I’m not the only one who gets excited when you open a game case for the first time and gently put the disc in your console. Or the book case full of games.

I feel like the gaming companies should take more time to evolve. We’re in something of a transition, a renaissance if you will, where people are being more aggressive in their push for higher quality games that induce thought and emotion, rather than the same old polished explosions and high definition aesthetics that are in every cookie-cutter “blockbuster” title. We’re also beginning to see the birth of a new era, in which publishers are losing power and grip over developers, like with Brian Fargo’s inXile entertainment studio, generating funding from the fans alone for a new Wasteland 2, rather than the publisher, who would’ve gotten involved and messed with the original vision of the developers for some added features that would’ve generated more money for them, instead of adding to actual gameplay value for them. These new things, like Steam, and Kickstarter, as well as downloadable games and indie developers, are on the rise towards something new, and possibly fantastic. What if Sony or Microsoft or Nintendo ends up releasing a new console that would’ve been ideal in 2010 before all this new fan funding and independent publishing was available?

I say the Three Kings should camp out, and see how all this new stuff is playing out, and just work it delicately and lovingly into their new systems, so as not to shut a large portion of the gaming community out, towards these largely independent games and developers that are breaking ground with all the new stuff they’ve been creating.
